I now have a new service dog!

Greetings,

I am so incredibly happy right now. I finally found the right dog that fits me well. He was on a farm in the Reedsburg Wisconsin area. a friend had him, who had rescued the dog from the local shelter. His time was just about up there, and they were about to put him down. He couldn’t see this dog going through that ordeal. In that area of the state, there are many surrendered animals. because of the floods this year. along with a bad economy. people are loosing homes left and right. so the end result is our wonderful animal friends being burdened on the human society shelters.

I sent out an email to a number of people. A Marine Corps Veteran stepped up and drove me up north and back. He didn’t ask for anything in return. I tried a couple of times to talk him into letting me pay for his gas. He said he was just glad to help. This warmed my heart tremendously. I realized that there still were people who live by a code. I’m forever grateful to this man. He is also a former MP and K9 was his specialty. so he was able to look at the dog and see his possibility.

When we arrived I was blown away by how beautiful he was. he is several shades of white and creme with black and gray down his back. very much like a wolf. He has one blue eye, and one brown eye. which I find amazing. He has been with me for two weeks now. I am very impressed with his ability to learn. he has come very far in a little bit of time. he already knows around 10 to 15 commands. which I use to direct him while he pulls me in my manual wheelchair. he loves to work. its cool.

Yeah at times he can be a pain in the butt. I have to remember that he is still just a child. that his little mind can’t work all the time. that he needs break time and play time. these are areas I was a little bit strict on at first. but I’ve since relaxed tremendously. after all he is just a baby, and will be high maintenance until better trained.

I have named him Hermes. after a Greek philosopher from Alexandria Egypt. Hermes Trismigistus wrote a document called the emerald tablet.
